In September, Nick and Eleanor Hards (Mayor and Mayoress of Didcot) spent a long weekend in Meylan as guests of Meylan Town Council. One of the reasons for the visit was to see their annual “Forum des Associations”. Over 80 voluntary organisations take over Meylan’s large sports hall for a day, and huge crowds come along to find out about the many activities which are on offer in the town. During the day there were demonstrations of martial arts, dancing and drama. It was all rounded off with an open air concert given by two groups of local musicians.
As well as meeting many of the groups who are active in Meylan, Nick and Eleanor were taken to see two of Meylan’s libraries, the Music School, some of the town’s parks, and the Field Studies Centre. All these are paid for and run locally - and they aren’t cheap! It was a very enjoyable visit, and Nick and Eleanor enjoyed the hospitality, making new friends and meeting old friends again.
